I am often confused by conflicting advice and the numerous choices available on feeding.  We find this book very comprehensive and it covers many aspect of equine feeding.   It is also very organised and easy to read with content on specific diet for horses with laminitis and typing up condition.

An article by Susan Domizi talks about the benefit of seaweed to your horse.

Seaweeds are best known as the richest natural source of iodine.  Although iodine deficiency alone impairs thyroid function, deficiencies of other nutrients found in seaweeds, such as zinc, selenium, and manganese, can exacerbate the effects of iodine deficiency and impede healthy thyroid function.

The pressure against the inner structures of the front feet causes extreme discomfort particularly for horses with Laminitis.  A horse may shift his body weight onto his hind legs to relieve the pressure by tucking the hide legs under the belly.  His hooves and coronary bands feel warm to the touch.
