Signs that a horse might have a dental problem include:

- head tossing,

- turning the head sideways when chewing,

- feed being dropped while chewing,

- resisting the bit or fighting bit placement,

- reluctance to work or move in one direction,

- mouthing the bit excessively,

- excessive salivation,

- bad breath,

- nasal discharge,

- grain undigested in manure,

- weight loss, and

- even colic.

Earlier one of our tip is to pay attention to the water bucket:  "If a large amount of hay or feed is found in your horse's water bucket, it could be a sign of dental problems and if you note the amounts of hay or feed increasing (more than usual), calling the vet would be a safe bet."
